Cover Design
Feature Layout
The River was an independent London-based magazine covering arts, culture, food, and community life across South London. Published quarterly, it served a design-conscious readership with strong ties to the city's theatre, gallery, and independent business scene.
The Challenge
Independent magazines don't have the marketing infrastructure of large publishers. The challenge was to maintain visual ambition across a wide range of content, while keeping production costs lean.
The Work
Covers were built as standalone visual statements. The masthead stayed constant; everything else, typography, color, image treatment, shifted to serve the tone of each issue.
